Authorities to Conduct Vehicle Tax Inspections for 2022

PHNOM PENH: The General Department of Taxation has announced that from 15 January 2023, authorities will begin to inspect all types of vehicles on major roads in the capital city and in the provinces, and will stop any vehicles that are found to have not paid their required taxes in 2022.

The collection period of transportation taxes for all types of vehicles in 2022 was concluded on 30 November 2022, but the General Department of Taxation issued a call on 22 December to all vehicle owners who had still not paid their taxes, asking them to come and do so and to pay an additional fine in accordance with the law in effect, either at the General Department of Taxation, at provincial tax branches or at participating banks. This is to reduce the number of vehicles that get stopped on roads and issued fines, as this will waste time and cause congestion on the road.

Vehicle owners who fail to pay their taxes on time will be subject to penalties under applicable tax laws.

In addition, the General Department of Customs and Excise of Cambodia has once again reminded owners of right-hand drive vehicles in Cambodia who have already registered with the Department, to pay their taxes by 31 December 2022.
